About

I developed HIST 194-01: “Getting Medieval: The Middle Ages in the Modern Imaginary” in order to study and indeed join the conversation already happening in fiction, film, gaming, and cosplay between  our 21st-century moment and the medieval past.  Why and how do medievalesque settings and storylines continue to resonate with (post)modern audiences? What can Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings teach us about our present moment? Can we use them to rediscover the medieval past?  In this class, my students and I will explore these, and undoubtedly other, questions.

Prof. Cameron Bradley (Ph.D. Univ. of Minnesota, 2015) works on later medieval western Europe, gender, social elites, chivalry, and kinship, and he offers courses on these and many other subjects, from The Vikings to Medieval Cities to Early Modern World Travelers.
